Ensure education for child workers’

CHITTAGONG: Speakers at a roundtable here on Sunday observed that parents’ insolvency and absence of the government policies are key factors in drop outs, child labour and other violations of children’s rights.

They called for steps to ensure the opportunity of education for the child workers who face different forms of violence at workplaces.

The speakers stressed the need for introducing a uniform education system to remove discrimination existing in the education system of Madrassa, Bangla and English mediums schools.

ISDE Bangladesh, a social development organisation, with the associated wit Bangladesh Shisu Audikhar Forum(BSAF) oganised the roundtable titled “Problems of Child Labour and Our Duties” at Chittagong Social Development Forum (CSDF) Auditorium in the port city on Sunday, 26 December.

Nearly a million children are involved in child labour in the country and deprived of rights due to lack of the government initiatives, observed the speakers.

They asked the NGOs and individuals to come forward for the betterment of underprivileged children.

It is impossible to make headway in the national progress leaving a large number of underprivileged children behind, they said.
