ISDE Bangladesh organized Public Demonstration and Protest Rally Against Child Abuse

Demanding Social Movement at Family and Society level to Stop Child Abuse

Without creating social movement to ensure CRC at family and society level child rights will not be ensured and children will not be protected their rights from state as well as family. So there is high need to create awareness raising on CRC at family and society level and social movement for child rights. It was founded that child torched, abuse become raise high, domestic workers passing their life with very measurable condition, working children also violating their rights. But peoples have no voice and no actions to resist these types of social crime. Besides child rights and child development activities become commercialization and funding for child rights and development to child focus NGOs diverted to commercialization and contractors and they are making money in the name of child rights protection. The peoples raising voices anti-NGOs concept development models, but some contractors using trade license in the name of NGOs holding most of the local and international fund. So, now the time to resist this types of social crime child rights activities must be child focus NGOs and humanitarian groups and stop commercialization of child rights activities and funding process. There is high need to formulate separate procurement policy for NGOs and non-profit sector in Bangladesh.  These were stated by the speakers on 6th October 2013 on the occasion of World Children Day and Child Rights Week celebration Aparajew Bangladesh, EU supported campaign project Civil Society Alliance for Child Rights in South Asia” ISDE Bangladesh with the association of South Asian Alliance of Grassroots NGOs(SAAGN) organized public demonstration at Chandgaon old police station, Chittagong city corporation.

Speakers shows their anxious regarding increasing rate of child abuse, child violation and exploitation in Chittagong region and civil society people have no voice and child rights organization have no actions. Speakers also demanding set up special tribunal to punish the criminal who are involve in child abuse and crime. They also demanding create an enabling environment towards children at family and society to ensure child rights.

A total of 375 Students from different government and non Government primary schools, teachers, parents also take part the public demonstration and the rally were marched passed to the main street of Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. Later prize distributed to the winner of the art competition for disadvantaged children held 6^th October.

Infrastructural development, improve local law enforcing situation, education, agricultural productions, it is also demanding to increase more budgetary allocation for total sanitation coverage of the union. Besides ensure quality education, women and child development, regular sharing with the community people of the planning and budgeting of the union parishad, increase more activities on education, sports, cultural and demanding to expand the social safety net and cover more peoples. These recommendation were stated at the open budget session of the B M Char Union Parishad of Chakria Upazila under Cox’s Bazar districts on last 20 June 2013. B M Char Union Parishad organized Open Budget session for the fiscal year 2013-2014 with the emphasis to allocation for Water and Sanitation Programme of the Union Parishad budget with the help of ISDE Bangladesh and Freshwater Action Network-South Asia Bangladesh Chapter (FANSA-BD) at Union Parishad auditorium.

A total of Tk. 26,94,368.00 was announce budget for the fiscal year 2013-2014, where Tk.170,000.00 was allocated for water and sanitation.

Chakaria Upazila parishad Chairman Rezaul Karim thanks to the Union Parishad authority to announce their budget with open dialogue to the voters and which is the good example of the Union Parishad to promote transparency and accountability to the community. He hopes other local government will also follow the systems to involve the local community to prepare the budgeting and planning of Union parishad. He also emphasis to ensure participation of the local community in planning and implementation of the local government council.

Women folks are main victim for climate change issues, but most of the rural women have no ideas about the reason and adaptation skill to cope with climate change related issues. Besides women folks are also main actors who contribute a lots to ensure food security in our country.

A portion of the community destroy the traditional best practice, culture and tradition in the name of modernization and urbanization as result agricultural production, fisheries, livestock and food securities situation going to vulnerable condition.  Peoples losing their own culture and tradition and which are their own pride and originality.  Natural resource and practice is going to destroy due to climate change in the developed countries including developing and least developing countries. People migrated to city in the name of modernization and become more dependence to the machinery. Modern equipment destroyed the traditional norms, practices and culture. Due to urbanization peoples leave methane gas which is serious harmful for human health and environment living condition going more vulnerable for human being to live. Finally it destroy the natural resources, fish, agriculture production, nature works abnormally if the rain start, there is no breaks and raining happen in non season, temperature is going higher, sea levels raising higher day by day. If we promote the traditional good practices nature must be supportive to human being.

Coastal community peoples and agriculture production are the main victims for climate change related risks and hazards target. But there is no space for coastal community peoples in Government and non Government plans and programme to reduce their sufferings. Coastal people are deprived by any development plan. As a results many indigenous communities going to missing from our society. Specially the fishing communities are most vulnerable to survive and now they are losing their occupation and livelihood. It also proved that if the community people’s capacity and skilled to response any disaster they must be are contribute a lots which was proved in Rana plaza tragedy at Savar. Local volunteers perform excellent job to rescue and operation then law enforcing agencies. So if the local community peoples capacity and skill are enhanced on climate change issues they must be played a vital role in climate change adaptation issues at coastal areas of Bangladesh. Speakers urges the organizers to spread out the fair to the more remote areas of the country and raise voices to make social and political movement to stand against culprits who destroy the nature and create hazards. Speakers also said Matamuhuri river is opportunity for Chakaria now it become problem due to river is occupied by some land grafters. Besides tobacco cultivation, hill cutting, destroy forest resources are causes for environmental critical condition in Chakaria. So there is need for social movement by the local community to protect nature and environment and safe our nation.

The speakers criticized the international donors community to become a testing laboratory for their various development models. Without any demand and consent from community they are undertaking various projects which not required or any justification in Bangladesh contest. Most of the projects are prescribed by the World Bank, IMF, ADB and multinational donors ‍and their prescriptions. Peoples demand and concern fully ignored in the planning and preparation of any projects. As a result there is no community participation in the development projects and it cannot bring any positive changes in livelihoods. Speakers also condemn for allocating more money for consultancy work in the project budget. They said most of the fund used for consultancy services which is not justified and it is not healthy for any country.

Demanding Special steps by UN & Global leaders to make compensation to ensure Climate Justice and save Coastal peoples of Chittagong

Demanding climate Justice 

UN Climate Change Conference will be held at Doha, Qatar on 26^th Nov to 7^th Dec this year. Leaders from all around of the world will take participate the conference to discuss the Kyoto protocol, long term strategies, carbon emission cut, climate funding and green funding and other related issues. Peoples from the most vulnerable country Bangladesh demanding special attention the world leaders to takes special steps to the most affected people. The principal demand from the peoples of Bangladesh to the international community reduce green house carbon gas by 2050 carbon gas must be reduced 95%. It also demands the losses to recover the rural livelihood from the developed nations and they have to compensate the affected countries. Otherwise affected nations will boycott the products from developed nations. These was stated on Human Chain on Climate Justice after gathering and mime memories cyclone of 1970 victims  organized by ISDE Bangladesh with the associate of Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods-CSRL on 12^th November 2012 at Chittagong Press Club Premises. ISDE Bangladesh, Songsaptaque, Humanitwatch, CSDF, ADAB, CRCD, ELLMA and CSRL member organizations initiated the Human Chain to celebrate the Climate Justice Week 2012 demanding Climate Justice were participated by different sections of the community. The speaker says developed countries are responsible for climate change and so many people become climate refugees and they should take the responsibilities. In Bangladesh various natural calamities occurred every day due to carbon gas emission by the developed nations.

The speakers demanding to ensure free movement relocation, rehabilitation and reintegration of climate forced migrants, enacts separate procurement policy for NGOs & green climate fund management, global green house gas emissions must peak no later than 2015, limit global temperature increases no more than 1.5°C of pre-industrial level reduce atmospheric green house gas concentrations to 350 PPM, reduced emissions at least 45% in aggregate against 1990 levels by 2020, global GHG emissions must be reduced by at least 95% below 1990 levels by 2050, contribute public money for Green Climate Fund, international transports including shipping & aviations must provide adaptation costs, no to World Bank and ADB in climate finance management. Apart from this coastal region of Bangladesh is almost one third of the total land. In generally 18 districts belongs to coastal region. 48 Upazila of 15 districts are most vulnerable to climate change. Already some areas are affected by water logging and saline water intrusion, sea level raising. People are suffering from drinking water scarcity and also from fresh water for irrigation and some areas agriculture production going down. Saline water encroaches by shrimp farmer and the shrimp farming land and paddy land become out-of-cultivation. Common hazards of these areas are cyclone and heavy storm, flood, tidal surge, heavy rainfall, salinity intrusion, short duration water logging. People demands immediate steps to save coastal people from these types of natural calamities. Salinity is become dangerous effects for the coastal community and besides deforestation, low food production may be increased day by day.

United Efforts of Law Enforcing agencies, Media and NGOs to Ensure UNCRC at Family Level

UNCRC was adopted long years ago, but till now CRC is violating at street, family, society, and child and women tortured, VAW etc were happening anywhere at al level. Discrimination between girl children and boys in education, health care services, recreation and freedom of choice and nobilities are still exists in our society and culture. There is right figures how many children are victimize to engaged in domestic works at households and how many children are engaged in hazardous child labour in many working places and finally they going to dark and with out any future dream. Besides so many young and teenage girls children forces to suicide by the causes of eve teasing by the a few culprits. The Government has set up Ministry of Women and Children Affairs who take action to stop these types of violations and set up Women and Children Special tribunal Act for women and children at district level although the figure is not reducing and it is not stopped and it is increasing day by days. There is no social protection to ensure CRC, so violence on CRC violation is moving to high day by day. To stop these types of serious evil from society, there is need to create a united efforts by the law enforcing agencies, journalist and NGOs to implementation of CRC at family to society, otherwise society will be darkness. These was stated at the orientation on “UNCRC and Children Participation for journalist” was organized by Integrated Social Development Effort (ISDE) Bangladesh with the help of Bangladesh Shisu Audhikar Forum (BSAF) and TDH Netherlands on last 13-14 March 2010 at CSDF hall Chittagong.

Mr. S M Nazer Hossain Executive Director ISDE Bangladesh was presided over the closing session while Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Mr. Banaj Kumar Majumdar was Chief Guest. Mr. Afasr Khan, President District Social Entrepreneur, Ex Board member of BSAF & ASHOKA USA fellow Mr. Quazi Iqbal Bahar Sabery was special guest. Ms. Rasheda Akhter, Nargis Akhater Trainer Ain O Salish Kendra, Mr. Manjur Ahmed, BSAF, Journalist Abu Mosharaf Rasel, Maojammel Hoque Chy, Ismat Marjida khan, Kutub Uddin, Alagir Sabuj, Maksud Ahmed, Azad Moinuddin, Shama K Nahar, PO, CSDF, Subrata K Bala CAB Divisional Programme officer, Md Jahngir Alam, PC, ISDE Bangladesh were took part the closing session. The speakers give emphasis to ensure social responsibilities to present any news of CRC violation. Some news man take news as their tool to business and requested to serves as member of the society who will stand with the victims. News always is supportive for victims not to demoralize. They also suggested keeping eyes open to protect the rights of victims. They also say some times the news presenter changes the actual facts to presenting of any female victims as a result the victims can not benefited from the news and culprits become release by the news. So they requested journalist to present positive sign and good example which learning for all. One news and views can changes a life survive or dies

Demanding Climate Justice and save Coastal people of Bangladesh

The principal demand from the peoples of Bangladesh to the international community reduce green house carbon gas by 2050 carbon gas must be reduced 95%. It also demands the losses to recover the rural livelihood from the developed nations and they have to compensate the affected countries. Otherwise affected nations will boycott the products from developed nations. This was stated on Human Chain on Climate Justice after gathering organized by ISDE Bangladesh with the associate of Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods-CSRL coastal group on 3rd June 2010 at Chittagong Press Club Premises. ISDE Bangladesh initiated the Human Chain to celebrate the World Environment Day 2010 demanding Climate Justice were participated by different section of the community. The speaker says developed countries are responsible for climate change and so many people become climate refugees and they should take the responsibilities. In Bangladesh various natural calamities occurred every day due to carbon gas supplies by the developed nations.

Apart from this coastal region of Bangladesh is almost one third of the total land. In generally 18 districts belongs to coastal region. 48 Upazila of 15 districts are most vulnerable to climate change. Already some areas are affected by water logging and saline water intrusion. People are suffering from drinking water scarcity and also from fresh water for irrigation. Saline water encroaches by shrimp farmer and the shrimp farming land become out-of-cultivation. Common hazards of these areas are cyclone and heavy storm, flood, tidal surge, heavy rainfall, salinity intrusion, short duration water logging. People demands immediate steps to save coastal people from these types of natural calamities. Salinity is become dangerous effects for the coastal community and besides deforestation, low food production may be increased day by day.

Strong political commitment by the political leaders and members of the youth organizations are essential to Change the attitudes to think a women is also a human being, which also help to stop eve teasing and other sexual harassment to the young teenage and women. It is alarming for us eve teasing and sexual harassment become serious social crime amongst our society. Many young women become stop to goes school, collage and work places due to sexual harassment. Political organization works for the whole community where 50% are women. If 50% population forces to stop their normal mobility, the whole community will loses to get progress of the community and advancement of the nation will hamper. If the women’s mobility become stop, the advancement process will stop down. So, the political leaders should raise awareness of the bad impact of the sexual harassments and eve teasing to their supporters, young teenagers and whole community. The political leaders also need to train on about the danger situation of the sexual harassments. Sexual harassments are now not only social issue it also a political issue and all the progressive parties have to works to change the behavior and attitudes towards women. These were said by the speakers at the road march and gathering at various spots of the Chakaria Upazila under Cox’s Bazar district. The Road Show is organized to raise demand political social protest against sexual harassments to mark the International Fortnight on Violence Against women (VAW) on last 15th December. ISDE Bangladesh with the association with local Upazila administration, Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council and Women Activist Group organized the events.

The Road Show (Sanghati Jatra) is inaugurated by the local freedom fighter and central leader of Bangladesher Workers Party Haji Bashirul Alam, amongst others Chairperson Upazila Women Activist Group and women leader Umme Kushum Minu, women leaders Lannatul Bakeya Rekha, Awami league leaders S M Manjur Hossain, Students leader Ashikur Rahman, teacher of BN School and Collage Ekramul Hoque, Sindabab Kamal, Labi Das from Chakria Sangit Nikton lead the road march. Among other Giash Uddin, Progarmme Manager, Sk Azad Kamal Tipu assisted the march.

The road march going round the various parts of the Upazila and conducted cultural functions, gathering and street meetings. The local political leaders, teachers, journalist, students and youth leaders, women leaders, local UP Chairman, members shows their solidarity about the demands. Some of them are took part in the road procession, human chain. Later is the road march finished at the Chiringa station Chittagong Cox’s Bazar highway with cultural function.
