ISDE Bangladesh Celebrated 100th Anniversary of International Women Day: Making a Century
Thousands of Women and Men Comes with street, demanding women equal participation in Political form
A hundred years of fighting for basic rights. A hundred years of struggling against gross discrimination, extreme forms of violence and an age-old conspiracy to keep women powerless and marginalized. Yet no matter what the odds have been women have survived and more often than not emerge victories in their battle for equality. Celebrating this historic day March 8, women form all walks of life at main street, highways and other important places to light symbolic candle and share few moments of precious solidarity. Sharing this victorious moment are hundreds of men and who pledge their commitments to the fights against violence against women and all other forms of discrimination towards women and girls children. Thousands of women and men comes with main street of Chakaria with voice of slogan for equal participation of women in political and other social structure and to stop violence against women and stop discrimination. These were happened at colorful rally and street procession to celebrate 100th Anniversary of International Women Day 2010 at Chakaria Upazila under Cox’s Bazar district. 8 March morning thousands of women and men gathered at Chakaria old Airport premises (Bijoy Manch) with festoon, banner, play card etc. This is large gathering of the history of Chakaria and around 10 AM the play ground is full of women and men. The rally is inaugurated by the Municipality Mayor Zafar Alam. With the help of Chittagong Social Development Forum(CSDF) the celebration was arranged by the Chakaria International Women Observation Committee, Chakaria Upazila Administration, Chakaria Municipality, ISDE Bangladesh, TIB, Karmaneed, SARPVP, Proshika, caritas, UBINIG, ACLAB, Maristopes, SUJAN etc. The rally and march procession was cross the main road and highway of Chittagong Cox’s Bazar and make Human Chain at Chiringa of Chittagong Cox’s Bazar highway. After end of the rally and procession and panel discussion was held at Auditorium of Chakaria Korak Biddapit. Dr. Shahana Begume Convener of the organizing committee was presided over the discussion, amongst other Municipality Mayor Zafar Alam, ISDE Bangladesh Executive Director S M Nazer Hossain, Upazila Women affairs officer Rabeya Chowdhury, Principal Chakaria Women Collage S M Manzur, Workers Party Central Leader Haji Bashirul Alam, President Upazila Social Entrepreneur Group Umme Kulsum Minu, TIB Regional Manager Zashim Uddin, Proshika Representative Nazrul Islam, Marisytopes representative Moinul Islam, SARPV representative Parveen Banu, Karmanned representative Shahana Begume, ISDE Bangladesh regional Manager Giash uddin, Nazma Akhter from Kaya, Anar Koli jaladas from Upazila Fishing Community federation, and farida Akhter, Khaleda Khanom, Jahanra Begume, Minara Begume and Joynab Begume from organizing committee were took part the discussion

The spears urge to ensure women’s equal participation in political process, social and other committees. Speakers also say if only Government and opposition leader is women is not works rightly, all process and procedures should be women friendly. So speakers urge the government to amend the process, system and mechanism of policies to become pro-women equal participation. They also wants support from their male partners in this process. Speakers also says if a father is unable to caretake of children, mother can not ignore of it but when identify the children there is no mentioned of a mother, so the speakers demand to modify the present right of succession laws to ensure mothers rights to identify the succession of a child.
This is also mentioned that ISDE Bangladesh with the help of CSDF/Steps undertakes fortnight long campaign to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of International Women Day from 8-27 March 2010. The programme are rally, honor the grassroots celebrate women and freedom fighter, cultural programme, discussion meeting with political parties, professional organizations, promise to act against eave teasing by the students, documentary film show, gathering and meeting with Upazila and union level NNPC and civil society etc
