4 days Training Workshop on Environmental Awareness & development held at Chittagong
Demanding Right Participation of NGO representative at the Climate Change Fund and local initiatives for Environment protection

Due to lack of right participation of real NGO representative in the Government initiated Climate Change trust fund management many irregularities held to select NGOs, many business organizations, research firms, individual persons were selected as NGO to implementing the Climate change trust funded project, which is weigh down the aims of the trust fund and it will also hamper the image of the Government initiatives in the climate change issues. Speakers demand to develop separate procurement policy for NGOs and social sector. These were stated by the speakers of the training session on Environmental Awareness and Development organized by ISDE Bangladesh and CAMPE held on 27-30 march at CSDF auditorium, Chittagong.

 Local and international huge fund was spent to environment development and climate change issues which were uses to experimental basis to conduct study by the consultant groups, business firms and international experts ultimate users community people have no result from it. Finally NGOs become blame and liable to the nation. Speakers demanding making linkages to research and implementation at the field level, otherwise research paper will block at the laboratory test. It also demands to involve the local NGO, CBO, voluntary initiatives and other pressure groups who acting to protect natural environment development at locality. They also anxiously said due at lack of separate procurement policy for NGO and social sector, NGOs treated as contractor or business firms under bidding procedure. Finally NGOs, business firm, individual comes from Khulna-Barishal to Chittagong to implement projects and end the projects there is no impacts from the projects. Peoples accused the NGOs, not the process which is not correct.

Speakers demands to develop separate procurement policy for NGO and social sector. Speakers also ask the civil society to raise voice to demanding climate justice, demands the losses to recover the rural livelihood from the developed nations and they have to compensate the affected countries. Otherwise affected nations will boycott the products from developed nations. They also urge the community people to behave environment friendly to the nature and responsive the nature. It also demands create mass awareness on climate change and environmental issues.

 The 4 days training contends was basic ideas on environment, air and sound pollution, contaminated water, soil erosion regenerative agriculture, climate change and natural disaster, health and environment, gender and environment, waste management, local culture and practice, environmental laws and identifies the problems on climate change and environment at greater Chittagong. Resources person was Prof. Abdul Hoque, Ex-chairman of Geography department of Chittagong University, Dr. Khaled Misbahuzzaman, Institute of Environmental science and forestry, University of Chittagong, M Nasirul Hoque, City Editor Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh, Adavoacte Akhater Kabir Chowdhury, Convener TIB-Citizen Right Committee Chittagong, Sakiba Khatun, Deputy Progarmme Manager, CAME.

Amongst others 30 participants from NGO workers, teachers, women leaders, representative from fishing community, student leaders were participated the training workshop.

  1. Well, it is good to know that environmental awareness training programs are now reaching a lot of locations and are able to teach a lot of people about our surroundings. I do hope that everyone participates for making our environment more greener than ever.
