Due to Duel Policy of the Government and Donors Peoples are suffer from Price hike and Consumer Rights violations

World Bank, IMF and other multinational donors invested money to spread out jut industries in India and at the same time they invested money to quit jute industries in Bangladesh. This is also same in the consumer’s rights situation in Bangladesh, the WB, ADB, IMF and others funded many projects to FBCCI, BGMEA and others trade bodies but they are not interested to invest any amount of money to consumer’s rights organization in Bangladesh. As a result there are big gap between trade bodies and the Consumer Rights Organizations. Now the people are suffers by price hike of essential commodities, adulteration of food and syndication of rice and others commodes for making high profits. The Government mechanism are failure to monitor the business groups and houses. Government blaming Consumers rights organizations are not capable to handle the protection of consumer rights. Government withdrawn subsidy from agriculture, fertilizer, fuel and energy as per direction by the WB, ADB, IMF and others multinational donors. Now the livelihood security of the community people become unwanted. These situations were not expectable by the consumers. These were stated by the speakers at the special General Meeting of Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Chittagong Regional and Metropolitan City was held on last 6th June 2011 at CSDF Auditorium.

The meeting was presided over by the CAB Central Committee member S M Nazer Hossain, while renowned Journalist & President of District Social Entrepreneur Council M Nasirul Hoque was special guest. Amongst others Kazi Iqbal Bahar Sabery, Secretary General of CAB Regional Committee, Ajoy Mitra Sanku, CAB City, CAB Leader Haji Abu Taher, Saleh Ahmed, Jahirul Islam, Sowrab Barua, Nurul Absar, Shahen Akhter Beauty, Abu Younus, Jane Alam, Syama Hoque, Shanaj Parven Luna, jannatul fedous, Deular Hossain, Kazi Yousuf Chowdhury, Principal Monsur Habib, Bibuti Bushan Barua, Poulak Chanda, Nazrl Ismam Manna, Ruhul Muhit Chy, Mohammed Hasan, Abul Kashem, Mahinur Sultana singdha, Mezmah Uddin Liton was spoke on the occasion.

Speakers criticized the government’s role to ensure the rights of basic food and cloths which was main agenda of the election manifesto but now they are busy to protect to save a few businessmen. As a results CAB and others have to fights in street to save the nation from price hiker of essential commodities, syndicates business gang, adulterate of food, bakery, fruits & vegetable items by chemical, stop junk food to school students, regular supply of electricity, gas water supply in the time of holly Ramadan and others festival. The meeting forms a subject committee to constitute new committee for CAB Chittagong Regional and Metropolitan city. It also decided to start campaign for new members under CAB different units. Strengthen effective people’s participation at all stages of program designing, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation harnessing local and external resources that will contribute greatly in sustainable social change. ISDE Bangladesh works in line with Target Group Approach as well as Community Approach followed by the principles of human rights, good governance, gender sensitivity, equity and participation targeting poverty reduction. It gives equal emphasis to ISDE Bangladesh scheduled castes and ethnic groups as target groups. ISDE Bangladesh grew to its present level by responding to the needs of the people. From 1993 ISDE started moving to a more exhaustive approach with resources and financial assistance from a number of development partners. ISDE Bangladesh has been gradually expanding its activities in more remote and neglected areas of the country.
