Citizen Dialogue on Gender Budgeting at local Government held
LG leaders promise to ensure budgetary Allocation to include Women
Human Rights issues in next fiscal year
Upazila
and Union Parishad leaders promises to ensure budgetary allocation for
addressing women human rights issues in next fiscal year. They also urges the
government to necessary actions to strengthening the local Government councils for
responding the needs for the half of the population women folks and demanding
reduce the supervisory role by the Member of Parliaments and bureaucrats to the
local government councils. These were stated by the speakers at the Citizen Dialogue
Demanding include Women Human Rights issues in Planning and Budgeting process at
local Government Councils held on last 24th May 2012 at the ICDDRB Conference
hall, Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.

Bangladesh, Chakaria Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council, Sufia Kamal fellows
and CSDF jointly organized the citizen dialogue while Chakaria Upazila Vice
Chairman S M Jahangir Alam Bubul was presided. Mr. Sk Azad Kamal Tipu and Giash
Uddin of ISDE Bangladesh was moderated the roundtable. Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi
Office Kh. Zakir Hossain was chief guest and S M Nazer Hossain Executive
Director ISDE Bangladesh was principal speaker at the dialogue. Chakaria UP
Chairman Association leader and Baraitali UP Chairman ATM Ziauddin Chowdhury
Zia, Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council President Haji Bashirul Alam, District
Social Entrepreneur Council leader S M Majur Hossain, Red crescent team leader
Nurul Abasar was panel speaker and women activist & Chakaria Women Entrepreneur
Council President Umme Kulshum Minu was presented key note paper at the dialogue.
Amongst others B M Chair UP Chairman Badiul Alam, Koanakli Up Chairman Didarul
Alam, UP secretary Sushil kanti Sushil, Saiful Islam, journalist A K M Nasir Uddin,
DAE official Abu Taher Nury, Sufia kamal fellow Jannatul Bakeya Rekha, Shahana
Begume, UP Members Jahanra begume, Rokeya Begume, Monorawra Begume, Murshida
Begume and Chakaria Municipality councilor Anajuman ara were take part the
discussion.

Speakers
demanding to analysis the contributions of the women at domestic works in
preparing national budget. They thanks the Government to take initiatives to
introduce gender budgeting by the various ministries. They also demanding to
specify the scope and tasks of the UP female members and support to enhance
their leadership. Speakers also demanding to ensure open budgeting session system
at all local local Government and ensure participation of the community in
budgeting process.
Speakers
prepared 30 points recommendations for implementation of the local government
to gender budgeting and include women human rights issues at the planning and
budgeting process. These are budgetary allocation for stop early marriage, domestic
violation, dowry, violence against women and increase participation of women in
political process.
Amongst
others UP Chairman, members, Municipality councilors, UP Secretary, journalist,
women leaders, political leaders, Government officials and NGOs representative
were participate part the roundtable.
